CARSON, CA (April 20, 2014)- OC Blues FC was defeated by LA Galaxy II for the second time last night at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium, with a final score of 3-1.
The Blues started off strong in first half, with three shots on goal. LA Galaxy II goalkeeper Cody Laurendi was unable to stop a perfect shot from Edgar “Jiovanni” Santana, marking his first goal as a professional. The goal from the newly signed Blue came in the 9th minute off a perfect assist from Blues captain, Allan Russell.
The gamed looked promising for the Blues as they went into the locker room for halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Coach Daryuosh Yazdani started his substitutions in the 49th minute with returning Blues veteran, Joshua Suggs. Both LA Galaxy II (Los Dos) and OC Blues FC made changes which led to a complete turn of the game for the Blues.
Los Dos tied the game in the 49th minute with an assist by Rafael Garcia on a goal from Charlie Rugg. Chandler Hoffman scored for Los Dos at 73rd minute, starting the 2-1 lead over the Blues.
Although Blues goalkeeper Patrick McLain was solid in stopping shots from LA Galaxy II, and William “Paco” Prado had a promising shot in the 74th minute, the morale for the Blues changed when Fabrice Gautrat was a issued a red card in the 88th minute for a foul on LA’s Raul Mendiola.
This led to a goal from late LA substitution Laurent Courtois in the 90th minute off an assist from Jack McBean, sealing a 3-1 victory for LA Galaxy II after four minutes of stoppage time.
OC Blues FC now stands at 1-3-0 with 3 points on the season, 10th place in USLPRO. LA Galaxy II regains the top spot in the league with 10 points and a record of 3-1-1.
The Blues don’t have much time to think about this defeat, as they are set to return home to take on Harrisburg City Islanders on Thursday, April 24th at 7:30PM. The busy stretch continues as LA Galaxy II comes to Orange County on Sunday, April 27th, with kickoff slated for 4:00PM.
