IRVINE, CA (May 31, 2014)-  The Orange County Blues showed their true colors tonight with a crucial 2-0 win against Arizona United Soccer Club.

General manager Jon Spencer preached to his squad the importance of full commitment in every part of the pitch.

The Blues players responded in grand fashion pressing high from the first whistle. It took just 15 minutes for the Blues to take the lead.

Center back Kwame Watson-Siriboe played a long diagonal ball into the space for Mehrshad Momeni. The Iranian had acres of space down the right-hand side to set himself up and sent in a pinpoint cross that was emphatically headed home by Allan Russell.

Center defenders Joe Sofia and Watson-Siriboe eventually got on the same page and kept United from getting behind the back-line.

Both teams created chances in the second half as the game began to open up. Both McLain and Arizona shot stopper Evan Newton made some spectacular saves to keep the score at 1-0.

An intriguing match became even more entertaining as the clock struck 90 minutes. Five minutes of added time led to two red cards for Arizona United’s Joseph Toby and Matt Kassel.

Orange County took full advantage as Mohammed Roknipour dispossessed Newton and slid the ball into an empty net for his first goal of the season, while securing all three points in the process.

The Blues improve to 4-7-0 and now turn their attention next Saturday’s encounter with Dayton as they continue their quest to climb up the USL PRO table. Arizona now heads up north to play Sacramento Republic FC with a 3-5-1 record.
