IRVINE, CA (October 9, 2014) – Orange County Blues FC signing Siavash Haghnazari has been officially named to the Iran U-19 National Team for the 2014 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-19 Championship. The top four teams in this tournament, which runs from October 9th-23rd in Myanmar, qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, hosted in New Zealand.

Haghnazari signed with the Blues midway through the 2014 season, but did not make his Blues debut before heading back to Iran to play with the Iran U-19 team ahead of the AFC Championship. Hagnhazari has a total of eight caps already with the Iran National Team, and joined Orange County from the youth academy of Iranian club Persepolis FC.

“Siavash is a signing that we’re really looking forward to for the 2015 season. He’s a midfielder with a tremendous upside, and has a lot to offer on the offensive side of the ball. Although his involvement with the Iranian National team delayed his debut with the Blues, we’re confident that this tournament could yield a breakout performance from him, and we’re excited to see him represent Iran and the Blues on the international stage,” said Jon Spencer, General Manager of OC Blues FC.

The Iran U-19 National Team has been placed in Group A of the AFC U-19 Championship, along with Myanmar, Thailand, and Yemen. Haghnazari came off the bench and played five minutes in Iran’s loss to Thailand today. Iran faces Yemen on Saturday, October 11th and Myanmar on Monday, October 13th to finish out group play.
